Well I had a bit of exciting news this week.  Over a week ago I submitted one of my Spire of Lloyd Photographs (see here for post) to the Meath Chronicle Newspaper to be considered for their “Photo of the Week” section.  I didn’t get any reply, so presumed I had been unsuccessful.

On Saturday I was out shopping with the husband for some essential groceries, when I picked up this weeks paper to have a nosey which photo had made the slot.  Imagine my surprise when I opened it up to see my photograph bold and bright on the page.

Meath Chronicle

I am embarrassed to say, in the middle of the self-service check-out, I actually let out a high-pitched squeak which prompted my better half to wander what-on-earth was going on.  I proudly showed him the page with a big cheesy grin, I must have looked like Wallace from Wallace and Gromit.  (not an attractive look)

Seeing the pride on his face meant the world to me and whether the readers of this weeks edition like my shot or not; I’ve made one person smile and that’s enough for me.

Original shot.

I noticed that the newspaper had cropped my photograph, so I would be interested to know if you preferred the cropped or uncropped version?

Thankyou for spending time to read my post, have a wonderful day and please come back soon 🙂

  1. Hey now. That is great news. I like your original shot the best. Excellent work, Claire.

  2. Congrats!!! That is so fantastic! I would be squealing and screaming and getting on the store intercom.
As far as the cropping it may have been just to fit their layout but it does make the the focal point of the photo more precise.

    Well done!

  4. Congratulations. I think your version is better as it provides a bit more context and I agree with Sue that they probably only cropped it because of their space requirements. (Suzanne)

  5. Congrats on making the newspaper, that is awesome. And the photo is great! I prefer your un-cropped version, but it looks great in the newspaper as well!

  6. Congratulations! Keep up the good work.

  7. Holy cow! I would have been jumping up and down like a yoyo! Congratulations!

I’m very surprised they didn’t send you any kind of response though. What if you had missed it?!!!
